Congratulations to the Shuping Scholars from Wellington College Tianjin!Wellington College Tianjin offers life-changing opportunities through its arts, sports, and academic scholarships, including the generous Shuping Scholarship. The scholarship covers up to 110% of tuition fees and is available to outstanding local pupils from working-class families. Recently, two exceptional pupils received the scholarship, Ethan and Hanson. 
Ethan, joined Wellington College Tianjin Senior School,one of the best Tianjin high Schools, in August 2021 and has spent three years studying here. As a piano player for thirteen years, he serves as the pupil music leader at school and shines in annual musicals and school concerts. He also enjoys the basketball tournaments, Christmas bazaars, and inter-college debates at Wellington College Tianjin. Ethan is currently studying Applied Mathematics and has participated in maths competitions such as the SMC (Senior Mathematic Competition) and AMC (Australian Mathematics Competition) with good results. He also achieved straight A's in his AS exams. From Ethan "I am very surprised and grateful to receive the Shuping Scholarship. Receiving the Shuping Scholarship is not only a financial help to me, but also an acknowledgement and motivation for my past study and life. I will continue to be a good example in school, take the initiative to help teachers and classmates, maintain good assessment grades, actively participate in activities both inside and outside the school, and learn skills to improve myself after school. I am not the smartest and most talented one among my outstanding classmates, but I will rely on persistence and hard work to improve myself in college, and in the future have the ability to pay back to the school, pay back to the community." 
Hanson joined in Year 10 and spent almost four years at Wellington. As the current Head of College, he has a talent for bringing people together and fostering a sense of community. As a boarding pupil at Benson House, his independence, confidence, and optimism are always inspiring. During his time at Wellington, he participated in numerous competitions, including the NEC (National Economics Challenge), AMC (Australian Mathematics Competition), and BBO (British Biology Olympiad), all of which he achieved good results. From Hanson "It’s an absolute honour for me to be offered such a privilege in my last year of senior school. I could not have received the Shuping scholarship without the support from all my teachers and parents not only academically, but also mentally as academic ability is not the only criterion assessed by the Shuping Foundation. I think my achievements today are largely attributed to Wellington's education, which is an authentic British Education in Tianjin. I learned to build on intellectual curiosity, true independence, generous and far-reaching inclusivity and the courage to become an Individual with a critical mindset and my own way of thinking. I believe it stimulated me to become the very best version of myself. I truly appreciate the education I received here at Wellington and all the skills I developed that equipped me to survive and thrive in the world of tomorrow. " 
From the Master Dr Yang Yang Dr Yang Yang, the Master of Wellington College Tianjin, stated, "This is the highest level of scholarship programme offered within our group. In 2019, Wellington College China launched our version of the Shuping Scholarship in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the original Shuping Scholarship. It has been awarded to four classes of pupils so far. We are pleased to see that each scholar is an outstanding pupil with good character, dedication, and a spirit of service, and has fully embodied the spirit of the Shuping Scholarship.
